notes on money, risk and the people who carry it

Claudeification

I keep watching owner/operators dump money into Meta & Google ads and then wonder to themselves why, at the end of the month, they are scraping pennies together to eat. Although this is somewhat entertaining, and if you are my direct competition, I do enjoy it, you need to understand that if you are running a business ads are dead. You're a content creator now whether you like it or not, and whatever you sell via content creation doesn’t really fucking matter. Asset Management, Private Credit, Insurance - all these lines are blurred. If you specialize, you die. Welcome to the Claudeification of everything.

Here’s a couple of things I’ve noted to my team:

If you pay for display ads you have room temp IQ and will be out of business in a fortnight. Display ads show ads to people who dont want to do … what? PAY MONEY. They literally won’t even pay to make sure they don’t see ads why the fuck are they going to buy your product if Jefe Bezos couldn’t even sell upsell them? Next.

Marketing, A marketer, CMO. All dying terms or alrayd dead. Irrelvant for sure. A college degree from anything other than a T-5 is a fucking scam and therefore anyone trying to get hired for one of these roles has been made redundant by the market esp. If they don’t have a T-5 on their resume. Treat ppl like this like the plague for your biz. Next.

Ads are increasingly irrelevant as more transactions and attention move online. Even things you think would be relevant, like billboards, are superseded by Google maps. And with self driving cars, who is going to look at a billboard ever again? With agents, who is ever going to look at a fucking AD again. Next.

SEO has been dead for 20 years, and now Google is getting replaced by AI powered search. Anyone who mentions SEO now shouldn't be taken seriously.

The internet is increasingly walled gardens (X, FB, Discord) that don't want you leaving the platform. So while they serve ads, there's a tension with them. If you are paying Lord Zucky for his peasants than expect to inherit their problems and guess what - that aint gonna make you money. Next.

McDonald's isn't going into 'fine dining' as a new business vertical. They're going to run a restaurant at a small loss as a marketing ploy. People will go there as a joke, the well dressed waiter will recommend the Michellin star chef made Happy Meal, and those people will post about McDonald's online. This is ADVERTISING in its newest form.

Tesla shot a car into space, then made a flying car. Tesla's marketing budget: $16. This is ADVERTISING in its newest form.

The bad news: you must create content. You have no choice. Your CV will be auto-denied, and your ads will be seen only by brokies.

The good news: content creation is Lindy. From shadow puppets on cave walls, to YouTube brainrot, it seems to have value no matter what technology does. It's also a moat: only ~1% of people create any content at all! Most aren't willing to look ridiculous in public.

And the best news: you need to create things AI can't. Otherwise, people just copy your content with AI. Be different, be fun, just don’t be boring.

Your future depends on you or ppl you can hire shaking their proverbial ass on the internet. Good luck.
